Monsters

We have been learning to use adjectives in our writing. Towards the end of term 3 the students in Room 16 drew their own monsters using paint, pom poms and googly eyes. When we were drawing our monsters we had to think of the describing words we wanted to use in our writing. We had a lot of awesome looking monsters. They are all different and unique.

Thank you Room 8 (our buddy class) for helping us with our monsters.

Here are some of the writing that the students in Room 16 did about their monster. These children worked really hard to record their writing on Explain Everything. I must admit it is a very difficult task - taking a good photo of the monster and its lunchbox, reading your draft writing fluently and expressively, making sure your voice is loud and clear for the iPad to pick up, turning pages when you finish reading a page and avoid other distractions around the classroom.  KA PAI kids!

Read and Draw

Here are a few more Read and Draw activities that the students in Room 16 did at the end of term 2. I showed the children how to record themselves talking about their picture on Explain Everything. However the children found it a bit too hard. Well done to those who gave it a go anyway.

Cross Country

Here's a video Miss Sadgrove made from the photos she took at Cross Country. Click play and check out the photos! Miss Sadgrove has done an amazing job with editing the photos and putting it all together. Thank you Miss Sadgrove.

I have also taken some photos of Room 16 during cross country. However Google has updated their photo app. I'm still in the process of figuring out the best way to upload photos onto our blog. Will post the photos up as soon as we have figured out how.

Activity: Read and Draw

Read and Draw is an independent activity that students do as part of our reading programme. With this task the students will need to read the instructions that is given and draw what they have read. This activities gives students an opportunity to practice their decoding (reading unknown words) skills and to communicate what they have read through drawing.
The students in Room 16 have used the Explain Everything App on the iPads to complete this task. Here are some of the work that we have achieved so far. This was also another good chance for students to practice downloading a worksheet from our classroom Google Drive onto Explain Everything and to save their work onto our classroom Google Drive using the app.

Our next step will be to record ourselves talking about our picture with Explain Everything.

Student Led Conference

Yesterday was our Student Led Conference at Glen Taylor School. It was a chance for our students to share their learning and achievements with their families. Thank you to all the families that came along to support their child.

Prior to the Student Led Conference the students in Room 16 had a practice with their buddies. We all took turns to be the student and also be our buddy's mum or dad. Some of the students in Room 16 became very encouraging parent for their 'child'/buddy with giving them some great positive feedback through out the practice and at the end.

Ka pai to the students in Room 16. I am very proud of you all for sharing your learning with your families and buddy.

Daniel's Reading Response

We are back to implementing Explain Everything on the iPad in our everyday programme. Here's what Daniel did on Explain Everything after he read the book 'My Brother'.
Well done Daniel on giving this a go.

Warriors

On Wednesday the Warriors came to Glen Taylor School. We learnt about how important it is to keep hydrated, be well rested and to eat well. Did you know that children need 11 hours of sleep each night and adults need 8 hours of sleep each night?

Looks like I need to work hard on making sure I get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.  Room 16 students, I hope you are getting at least 11 hours of sleep each night!

Hi Everyone

Dear Room 16 Children, Parents and Caretakers,

I hope you have all settled well into Room 16 and is eager for the learning journey we have ahead of us. I'm sure it is going to be filled with lots of fun and excitement.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • Our swimming sessions are on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the afternoon block. Please remember to bring your togs, towels and a plastic bag (you may bring goggles if you'd like to have them). It is important that you bring your swimming gear to school on these days so you don't miss out on swimming. We will be learning the skills to help us to keep ourselves safe when we are around and in water (e.g., swimming pools, beaches, lakes...etc)
  • Our KiwiCan sessions are on Mondays from 2pm to 2.30pm. Our theme for this term is positive relationships
  • Snag Golf started on the 24th of February and for 5 weeks, it will be on Wednesdays from 11.30am to 12pm
  • Don't forget to use Reading Eggs when you are at home. There are lots of online books you can access with your Reading Eggs account. Reading Eggs can even read the books to you. You can also create your own stories or read other people's stories by going to the 'Story Factory'
